Bocce Buddy - Another iPhone app created in my spare time. The original idea came from my father's friends, who enjoyed playing games in my backyard. They mentioned that Bocce was one of the oldest, and most played games in the world. This piqued my interest, and gave me an opportunity to flex both my i18n skills, as well as test out some open source code which allowed me to embed a webserver in an iPhone application. The result was this simple game and team management app, which can now be downloaded on the app store.
Jonket - This was my graduate project at Wake Forest University. Jonket is a mobile puzzle hunt game. Very similar to a scavenger hunt, players are presented with a clue which eludes to a location. Players then travel to that location with their iPhone to complete the clue. Each hunt, or Jonk as they're called contains between 5 and 10 clues, and can take place across a college campus, major city, or even across the country! The project was created using the Drupal CMS for the website, allowing me to create a full community site without needing to program each component myself. The application itself was created in Obj-C, and should be playable on both iPhone and iPad upon l launch. The launch date has unfortunately been post-poned until further notice.
FreeASL - FreeASL was created by a group of graduate students and myself during a high level software engineering course. It is a free sign language lookup application for the iPhone. When a matching phrase is found, it pulls a GIF animation to show the single word sign. If no such sign is found or the phone cannot access the internet, a sign language font can display the word spelled out in single letter signs. The application was launched for free and open source on the iPhone app store in May of 2010.
Nerd Fights - Nerd Fights was a program I created alongside my partner Jeff Vitalis in our game programming class. We took an existing game framework, built a game engine out of it, and then developed this 2D Fighting game to display its capabilities. The engine was built from the ground up to allow those with no programming skills to add their own characters, boards, and ammunition to the game. It was programmed in Java and the code is available to all to extend or learn from.
Extreme Lemmings - Extreme Lemmings was a program I created with my former roommate Christian Funkhouser in our Mobile Computing class. It is a scavenger hunt game played with a Maemo handheld and a bluetooth gps unit. The program allows users to create their own scavenger hunts or simply play other hunts they have gotten from friends. The scavenger hunt can span a college campus or the whole world.
LTD 2010 - In the summer of 2010, I embarked on a trip around the world. The trip lasted 2 months, and spanned more than 11 countries. During that time I used a netbook to maintain this travel blog detailing my adventures. It was one of the best experiences of my life, and I hope anyone with the opportunity to do something similar takes it. It is a once in a lifetime adventure.
Coming soon...-ish....
